Donald Byrne has shown signs of a child prodigy since he was six years old. During this time, he had learned to play chess, and later even participated in various chess competitions until he became an adult. According to reports, his total IQ was 190 at the age of 13. This is not surprising, why he is so talented in the game that requires well-designed actions and thoughtful strategies.

In 1953, he won the U.S. Open chess tournament in Milwaukee. Three years later, he was defeated by Robert Fischer in a one-on-one match, known as the “Game of the Century”. He also served as a professor of English at Pennsylvania State University and coached the school’s chess team. As one of the best players in the world, he deserves all the honors and historical status.
